Urdu Islamic Songs (na’ats) in Indian Movie Tunes

Question:

I have a question to ask you. It is regarding Na’ats. There are some Urdu Na’ats which have a tune from Indian songs. Are we allowed to listen to these types of na’ats.

Answer:

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

Generally, to recite and listen to Islamic songs (Na’at & Anashid) in any tune is permissible as long as it is recited with the right intention and there is no other reason of prohibition, such as: musical instruments, etc.

This also includes Na’ats that are recited in tunes which are taken from Indian movie songs, as there is nothing unlawful (haram) in the tune itself.

However, if one used to listen to the movie songs in the past, and by listening to these Islamic songs he/she remembers the movies/songs, then it will be necessary to abstain from listening to it, for one should also refrain and abstain from anything that reminds one of his/her previous sins, as this darkens the heart.

Yes, if one reflects generally on how sinful one is, and thus resorts to repentance, then this is permissible, rather recommended.

And Allah Knows Best
