This course provides a comprehensive study, and cover-to-cover reading, of the celebrated work authored by Shaykh Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani on the principles and ethics governing the process of issuing Islamic legal verdicts (fatawa), entitled: Uṣūl al-Iftā’ wa Ādābūh. The Arabic work delves into the methodologies, responsibilities, and etiquettes required for issuing fatwa, exploring classical texts and contemporary applications. The book will be read over the period of one year with a teacher who has the privilege of reading it with the author some 25 years ago. This is the first time Mufti Muhammad ibn Adam will be teaching it, and hence it’s an opportunity not to be missed. Many interesting and beneficial points (fawa’id) will be learnt during the course, in sha Allah. Please keep in mind that this is not an iftā’ course. Rather, it entails delving into the oceans of knowledge covered in this book and, thus, the course is not restricted to those wanting to peruse a course in iftā’. It is equally beneficial for students of Islamic studies, graduate scholars, and those interested in deepening their understanding of Islamic jurisprudence and its practical application.

Mufti Muhammad ibn Adam al-Kawthari
Shaykh Mufti Muhammad ibn Adam al-Kawthari is a traditionally-trained Islamic scholar who has studied the Arabic language and various other traditional Islamic sciences including Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir), Hadith and Fiqh in different parts of the world including the UK, Pakistan and Syria.
The Shaykh has taught many courses and lectured extensively on a range of topics, and continues to travel regularly teaching and lecturing both in the UK and abroad. Presently, he resides in Leicester, UK. He is a teacher of various traditional Islamic sciences, and Director and researcher at the Institute of Islamic Jurisprudence (Darul Iftaa, www.daruliftaa.com).
